Edward Cook, WVON-AM Disc Jockey `Nassau Daddy'

Edward Cook, 67, a former disc jockey with one of the city'sfirst black radio stations, died Monday in Humana Hospital-MichaelReese.

Known as "Nassau Daddy," Mr. Cook was one of several populardisc jockeys at WVON-AM during the '60s and '70s. Along with otherssuch as Herb Kent, "the Cool Gent," and Pervis Spann, "the BluesMan," Mr. Cook played rhythm and blues. Together, they helpedelevate WVON, the forerunner of WGCI-AM & FM, into one of the city'stop stations.

Mr. Cook and the others were also part of WVON's "Good Guy"team, which helped raise funds for organizations including the UrbanLeague, NAACP and Operation PUSH.
