Meyer: I've been talking to clients about domestic oil-and-gas drilling programs, which are partnerships that act like company stock and typically allow a 90% tax writeoff of what a client invests. These products aren't always available, but LPL works with Petroleum Development Corp. and Atlas Resources. These investment opportunities are a very good way to get a foot in the door with high-net-worth investors.
